The college does not provide student housing, but apartments are available in the area for students to rent.
Can I work on campus?
Employment on campus is an option available to F-1 visa students; however, the number of jobs is very limited. While school is in session you can work a max of 20 hours per week, during the winter and summer breaks you can work more than 20 hours per week.
Authorization from Immigration and Naturalization Services is needed for Occupational Practical Training which may take 90 days for approval. Approval from your DSO is needed for Curricular Practical Training.
Do I need medical insurance?
All admitted F-1 students are required to purchase the approved MN State System medical insurance plan through the college. The college is not responsible for any medical bills incurred by any student.
Can I pay my tuition before I register for my classes?
No, you cannot pay for your classes in advance. Your cost for tuition and books will be determined once you register for your courses.
How many credits do I need to maintain my status?
To maintain your status as an F-1 visa student you are required to enroll for 12 credits or more.
Can I travel outside the United States?
Yes, you can travel outside the United States however, you must have a valid visa and passport and your DSO must sign your I-20 before you travel.
Can I apply for Financial Aid?
International Students are not eligible for federal financial aid. Students can apply for Ridgewater college Foundation Scholarships. More information on this can be found at www.ridgewater.edu/scholarships

Section titled “General Facts”Apply as an international student if you are not a U.S. citizen and not an immigrant. If you are a permanent resident, refugee or person with political asylum status, apply for general admission as a new college student instead.
Non-immigrant Visas
Section titled “Non-immigrant Visas”The following non-immigrant visas qualify you to study here: H-1, H-3, H-4, J-1 (au pair), K-1 or R1. Send a copy of your visa with your application. Federal financial aid is not available to international students but Ridgewater College
Foundation Scholarships are. Visit ridgewater.edu/scholarships for more information.
Acceptance into the college does not guarantee enrollment into career and technical programs. Your academic record and placement test results must meet the program requirements, and space must be available in order to enroll.
All accepted student visa seeking students must be full-time students in a degree program – Take at least 12 credits per semester. If not, you risk penalties by U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services including deportation. Should you need to drop below 12 credits, contact the international student advisor in Counseling and Advising.
